Today we spent time rigging the space, and sorting out a series of other things such as printing posters and hanging them around, getting the astroturf and oiling up the wheels of the rails. We then continued to run scenes and polish them.

Multicolored-stage-lights-007 Rigging the lights:

We continued to rig the lights a bit more with the technicians in the morning. Before today I felt that the lights were all very similar and didn’t allow for us to create shifts with the lights, so I requested that we put in a tunnel of light down the middle for Zoe’s scenes, the others also put in a spotlight which they couldn’t do on Thursday before because they ran out of time. The lights by the end allowed us to do more exciting things now with the lights.

Individual Tasks:

Each of the group went off to do other chores in this time. Some went to get the astroturf, and then hoover it. Me and Dan took on the responsibility of printing off the posters I had made, at reprographics and sticking them up around the Axis to promote the show. We printed off 15 posters and dispatched them across the axis arts centre.

Continuing to Run:

Magic Scene: We continued to run the show and run through scenes. From the Sunday run, I felt that my ‘magic scene’ needed to be much quicker as it seemed to drag on. It needed to roll out in a manner of seconds, so we spent a bit of time working out how we could choreograph this quickly so that by the time I was saying ‘I want you to think of a colour’, the room was already ridiculously green.

Green Scene: I also felt that, at this point, the scene that follows the Magic scene wasn’t quite working either, there was no real reason for me to be under the blanket and no reason why I wouldn’t get out from under it. I also said that I preferred the Pip breast thing that had happened before, we tried a number of ways but they all didn’t seem to work. I thought that perhaps my love letter to an audience member could, like the idea I had for Carmen’s speech, be quite clearly read off a sheet of paper which pip held as a sort of autocue. The idea was that it starts of sounding like a ‘genuine’ love but then it gets revealed that I am just reading it, and it is the same every week, working with this idea that Nancy said of ‘undermining’ and adding ‘irony’ to our piece.

Carmens Speech:

We worked on Carmens speech for a while, Daniel began writing it spinning off from her original text. Carmen has struggled between playing a character and performing as herself so we wanted to spend this time working with her to build up her confidence in playing herself. After a short while Carmen was performing rather than acting and the comedy of the text Dan had wrote was naturally coming through, she was quite clearly saying the speech about this audience, but which had clearly been written for a different audience, one that had box seats, sixteen rows and a balcony row too.

The Run: Not much more changed in the final run of the day, we just weaved the previous parts we had worked on into this run and thought about lights too in this run for we are hoping that Anna will be there in our morning rehearsal tomorrow to rehearse with tech.
